The Executive Director plans, budgets, manages and leads the staff, communicates, resolves problems, and generally ensures that the mission of The Conflict Center is accomplished now and in the future, in harmony with the philosophy of peace making and consensus decision-making embodied in the bylaws and embraced by the board of directors. Specific responsibilities and personal qualities are described in more detail below.
The Executive Director (ED) plays a key leadership role at The Conflict Center (TCC). Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is deeply committed and passionate about furthering TCC’s mission of peace making. The ED’s role is both strategic and operational, focusing on implementing TCC’s strategic plan, overseeing organizational effectiveness, providing thought leadership to the community and the field, and ensuring TCC’s sustainable growth into the future. Most crucially, the ED engages our community at every opportunity to promote the importance of peacemaking skills in schools, workplaces, and the community. The ED is up-to-date in research and practical applications of restorative practices in schools and the community.
As a leader, the ED must demonstrate a high level of integrity and transparency and convey TCC’s vision to stakeholders. The ED must be action-oriented and public-facing, and showcases a passion for furthering TCC’s mission. The ED has strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating and task facilitation, supporting the development of programs, adapting to change, promoting innovation, and engaging in social entrepreneurship. The ideal candidate has established relationships in the community, or the ability to successfully cultivate relationships with partners, funders, volunteers, and staff.
