“Applying Restorative Practices to Special Edcuation” is an opportunity for educators to reflect on the ways the implement proactive and reactive elements of restorative practices. Participants will walk away with applicable strategies to ensure that all students are able to engage authentically. This workshop is a push to recognize that even relationship and repair based strategies can become unintentionally discriminatory when they are not applied equitably.
Based on qualitative studies, participants will identify ways that students, whether or not they have an IEP, receive and produce information, process conflict, and are able to take accountability for their actions. Throughout the workshop, we will emphasize building inclusive practices into Tier 1 applications of restorative practices. By the end, all participants will be able to name tools and strategies that they can apply in their next community building circle to increase engagement and accessibility to restorative practices for all students!
A working understanding of preventative and reactive restorative practices is preferred to participate in this workshop.
